Unexpected Texture Effect

On a whim I decided to push our 0.5mm nozzle and see exactly what the biggest layer height it could achieve whilst retaining print quality is. The idea was to speed up printing large objects that do not require high resolution, but the results were an interesting textured effect that I rather like.

The layer height was 0.6mm, width over thickness stayed at 1.5 and infill density was 50%. My working theory for the interesting effect is that the layer height is larger than the nozzle size, and the filament width at 0.9mm is significantly larger (almost double!). Thus trying to lay down almost double its thickness over the gaps between the infill lead to extrudate squiggling about, and the nice texture.
